About this event

The 73rd Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition Kanazawa Exhibition, a traveling exhibition gathering the highest peaks of traditional crafts from across Japan, will be held at the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art. Works selected through open competition across 7 divisions—ceramics, textiles, lacquerware, metalwork, wood and bamboo crafts, dolls, and various other crafts—will be displayed. Continuing since 1954 based on the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties, this exhibition introduces works by artists pursuing new expressions while carrying on traditional techniques, allowing visitors to also appreciate works by Living National Treasures and award winners. A total of 299 pieces will be exhibited, centered on artists associated with the local Hokuriku region, providing an opportunity to experience the rich possibilities of Japanese crafts. Commemorative lectures and gallery talks by the artists themselves are also scheduled during the exhibition period, offering a chance to learn about the depth of Japanese traditional crafts.
