The "40th Memorial National Tokachi Umauta Contest," where singers from across the country compete in the folk song "Tokachi Umauta" handed down in Obihiro, Hokkaido, will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Obihiro Civic Cultural Hall Small Hall. Marking the milestone 40th edition, this event will be a day to thoroughly enjoy how the song cherished and passed down in the region is expressed by singers gathering from all over the country. As its name suggests, Tokachi Umauta is a folk song rooted in the land of Tokachi, offering a chance to experience the musical culture handed down locally. Along with the resonance unique to live performance, savoring the vocal power and melodic nuances of folk singing is the highlight of this contest. The venue is the Obihiro Civic Cultural Hall Small Hall, characterized by easy access, approximately a 5-minute walk from the South Exit of JR Obihiro Station. Admission is 1,000 yen for unreserved seating.
