Kain Sambo Public Opening

About this event

Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth and 100th anniversary of the death of Akahiko Shimaki, Kain Sambo, the residence where Akahiko spent his later years, will be open to the public. While normally requiring a reservation, two public opening days per month are designated from May through November, excluding August. On this occasion, visitors can reflect on the life and achievements of Akahiko, who was active as an Araragi-school tanka poet, and visit the historic location where he composed numerous tanka poems. On opening days, related events are also planned, such as lectures by Akahiko researchers and literary walks touring poetry monuments. Furthermore, events such as ohagi rice cake making and yoga experiences are scheduled for June and July, making it an opportunity not only for viewing but also for rediscovering the locally rooted charm of Akahiko through various experiences utilizing the cultural property. Kain Sambo is a late Edo period residence of the Kubota family, named after Akahiko's fondness for the color of persimmon fruit.
