At Michibiki Fudoson YOGAKUIN (Mt. Tenborin-zan) located in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, the grand festival "Hiwatari" (Firewalking) is held every year on November 3 to pray for good health and protection against illness. This temple, featuring a 3-meter-tall statue of Michibiki Fudo Myo-o, is also widely known as a sanctuary for warding off sickness. Hiwatari is an ascetic discipline of walking over fire, where participants pray for mental and physical purification as well as sound health. Another highlight is the temple garden, which is beautifully adorned with blooming satsuki azaleas in early summer.
