About this event
Iga City is the hometown of the great haiku master Matsuo Basho, and this festival is held to honor the literary achievements and cherish the virtue of Basho, a wandering poet who lived and found his dwelling in travel. A "Basho Festival Commemorative Lecture" will be held on October 11, and a ceremony will take place in front of the Haiseiden Hall on October 12. Centered around Ueno Park, various events such as haiku competitions will be held across the city, allowing visitors to appreciate the master Basho's legacy. Offering flowers to the statue of Basho inside Haiseiden Hall is open to all after the ceremony concludes.
