About this event

Held at the Yasu City Museum of History and Folklore, 'Yayoi no Mori Hands-on Learning' is an experiential learning program where participants can enjoy learning about history by crafting ancient artifacts such as magatama beads, earthenware, and haniwa clay figures. Held during the 2026 Silver Week period from Saturday, September 19 to Wednesday, September 23 (national holiday), the event will run without any museum closing days during this period. Reception hours are from 9:00 to 15:00, and crafting is available until 17:00. A wide variety of activities are available, including making magatama beads (700 yen), plastic shrink craft (300 yen), clay dotaku bells (800 yen), clay flutes (800 yen), clay bells (800 yen), earthenware/haniwa figures (1,200 yen), Yayoi ceramic plates (600 yen), and ceramic handprints (1,000 yen), which can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages from preschoolers to elementary school students. Magatama and plastic crafts can be taken home on the day, but clay creations take 1 to 2 months to dry and fire, so they must be picked up at the museum at a later date or shipped with shipping paid on delivery. No reservation is required, but groups of 10 or more require advance booking. It is a valuable opportunity to experience the joy of craftsmanship while touching upon history.
