About this event

This night festival illuminates the historic Atago Highway in Saga Toriimoto, Kyoto, with the soft light of approximately 500 andon lanterns created by local children and students from Saga Art University and Junior College. Lanterns of various sizes lined along the historic path running from Seiryo-ji Temple to the first torii gate of Atago Shrine create an enchanting scene in the historic townscape. Held in conjunction with the night of the Sento Kuyo at Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple, it offers a scenic and atmospheric summer evening view. The event can be enjoyed by both adults and children, featuring a lighting ceremony, Japanese taiko drumming, and Hyottoko dance performances on the first day, followed by a children's festival fair on the second day. Why not spend a special summer night strolling along the historic path guided by the soft lights?
