About this event

The "13th Shimogyo / Kyoto Station Area Summer Festa" will be held to create vitality around Kyoto Station. Centered around Kyoto Station Building Development Co., Ltd., Shimogyo Ward Office, Nishi Hongwan-ji Temple, Kosho-ji Temple, and Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, this is a popular annual summer event. In 2026, various events showcasing the charm of the Shimogyo and Kyoto Station areas will run for about a month from Thursday, July 30 to Saturday, August 22. In addition to events at each venue, a "Digital Stamp Rally" will be held to rediscover the charms of Shimogyo Ward while visiting designated spots, generating local excitement. At Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, special public openings of Shosei-en Garden and Rofutei, an exhibition of the "Shinran" folding screen created by Takehiko Inoue, an acoustic live performance by Do As Infinity along with a rakugo performance, and a Buddhist book event are planned. At Nishi Hongwan-ji Temple, the "38th Hongwan-ji Noryo Bon Odori" will take place, featuring Kyoto's largest-scale Bon dance along with numerous food stalls and night booths, packed with plans enjoyable for both adults and children. At Kosho-ji Temple, visitors can enjoy "Ura-teRa Meguri" and "Kosho-ji Fes - Kids Hoonko - 2026", where kitchen cars gather and music and dance performances will be held, perfect for families. These events provide an opportunity to fully experience the summer charms of the Shimogyo and Kyoto Station areas.
