Roku Jizo Meguri (Six Jizo Pilgrimage)
Japanese name:六地蔵めぐり
📅 Sat, Aug 22, 2026 - Sun, Aug 23, 2026
About this event
This traditional event involves visiting the Six Jizo statues enshrined at the entrances of the six ancient highways of Kyoto to pray for family safety and good health. Collecting the prescribed red, blue, yellow, green, and white paper banners from each temple and hanging them at your entrance is said to ward off epidemics and bring good fortune. With an 800-year history, this event takes participants across six temples: Daizen-ji (Fushimi Jizo), Tokurin-an (Yamashina Jizo), Jozen-ji (Kuramaguchi Jizo), Jozen-ji (Toba Jizo), Jizo-ji (Katsura Jizo), and Genko-ji (Tokiwa Jizo). Each Jizo statue guards the entrance of an old highway, such as the Nara Kaido, Tokaido, Wakasa Kaido, Saigoku Kaido, Tanba Kaido, and Shuzan Kaido. Why not take this opportunity to experience a pilgrimage for fulfilling your heartfelt wishes while taking in the historic atmosphere of the ancient capital?
