About this event

The Gokonomiya Shrine Shinko-sai is the premier autumn festival in Rakunan, during which the enshrined deity, Empress Jingu, travels through the parish area. Held over 9 days, it is particularly famous for the Hanagasa Sosan-gu conducted on the evening of the first and eighth days, earning it the alternative name 'Hanagasa Matsuri' (Flower Parasol Festival). Elaborately designed small and large 'flower parasols' from each neighborhood visit the shrine, creating great excitement alongside the spirited chant 'Araunyoi-yoi, Arauntomakase.' Formerly celebrated during the Choyo Festival (Chrysanthemum Festival), this festival carries on the tradition of Furyu umbrellas from the Muromachi period. On the 9th day, the mikoshi procession (Mikoshi Togyo) takes place, bringing the festival to its climax. Throughout the festival period, the 'Senhime Mikoshi' is put on public display, and the shrine grounds are lively with over a hundred food stalls.
