The Nagaokakyo Garasha Festival is a festival recreating the historical episode in which Tama (Hosokawa Garasha), daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide, married Tadaoki, the eldest son of Hosokawa Fujitaka, who was the lord of Shoryuji Castle. Held annually on the second Sunday of November, various processions—including the bridal procession reenacting Hosokawa Garasha's marriage, a historical and cultural procession, a townspeople's celebratory procession, marching bands, and Naruko dance—parade over approximately 3 kilometers from Nagaoka Sixth Elementary School to Shoryuji Castle Park. At Shoryuji Castle Park, matchlock gun troop demonstrations and wedding ceremonies are held, enlivening the festival. Ahead of the festival, related events such as concerts, exhibitions, and handmade craft markets may also be held as 'Garasha Week.' This festival began in 1992 to commemorate the development of the Shoryuji Castle Ruins into Shoryuji Castle Park. Organized by the Nagaokakyo Garasha Festival Executive Committee, it is an important event revitalizing Nagaokakyo City, a place closely associated with Hosokawa Garasha.
