Iwashimizu Hachimangu Autumn Tea Offering Ritual

About this event

The Iwashimizu Hachimangu Autumn Tea Offering Ritual is a Shinto ritual in which over 200 varieties of green tea—including Sencha, Gyokuro, Kabusecha, and Tencha—donated by tea producers from the Kinki region, especially the premier tea-producing Uji and Yamashiro regions, are offered before the deities to pray for the development and promotion of the tea industry. During the ritual, an awards ceremony is held to announce the winners of the superior grade and other awards selected in the evaluation and appraisal contest of the offered tea, and the award-winning tea leaves are exhibited within the shrine grounds. This festival is organized by the Iwashimizu Hachimangu Kenchako Association and held every autumn.
