About this event
The Manpuku-ji Temple Moon-Viewing Sencha Tea Gathering is a large-scale sencha tea ceremony gathering held annually in October. Across the grounds of Manpuku-ji Temple, an Important Cultural Property, sencha tea schools led by headmasters residing in the Kinki region set up uniquely elaborate tea seating areas. In the evening, paper lanterns along the approach are lit, allowing visitors to enjoy sencha in a magical, subtle atmosphere. Tea offering ceremonies are also held in front of the Main Hall, and participants can choose 3 tea seats from multiple schools—including Ogasawara-ryu, Nijo-ryu, Hoen-ryu, Bifu-ryu, Obaku Baisa-ryu, and Zuiga-an-ryu—to savor sencha green tea. It is an event where anyone interested in sencha tea ceremony or participating for the first time can easily take part.
