About this event
Held on the second Sunday of every month (except February and August) at Manpuku-ji Temple, the head temple of the Obaku sect in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, the 'Hotei Festival' began with the aim of being an open temple in cooperation with the local community. Following a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event resumed with partial modifications on December 8, Reiwa 6 (2024), featuring a diverse array of handmade goods across approximately 50 booths. Visitors can enjoy warm interactions with creators and local people while soaking in the atmosphere of the historic temple. At the venue, performances such as enka shows by enka singers, local bands, and idol groups come together, letting you experience music and energy spreading throughout the temple grounds. In addition, the market features various stalls including food trucks, local gourmet food, and handmade accessories, where you can leisurely enjoy eating while strolling and shopping. This 'Hotei Festival' will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
