Kobe Motomachi: Tales of Fantastic Light

From September 9 to September 29, 2026, the lantern event 'Kobe Motomachi: Tales of Fantastic Light' will be held, enveloping the entire Chuo Ward of Kobe City, especially the Nankinmachi area, in fantastical light. In this event, colorful lantern art objects illuminate Kobe's night, creating a calm and gentle atmosphere. Three giant art objects and original art objects elaborately crafted by 14 participating shops and facilities will decorate the town, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing expressions of light with every step they take. Additionally, a digital stamp rally is available; if you visit all venues, you can enter a lottery to win 'Special Goods Recommended by MEW.' From September 25 to 27, which corresponds to the Mid-Autumn Festival, you can enjoy an even more special atmosphere. The lighting hours are from 18:00 to 22:00. This event is hosted by the Motomachi East Ward Community Council (MEW) and supported by Kobe City and the Kobe Tourism Bureau. The lantern objects appearing throughout the town transform the usual cityscape into an exotic, fantastical landscape, allowing you to fully enjoy a night view unique to this season where the mid-autumn moon overlaps with countless lights.
