About this event

Held as a commemorative celebration for the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Rokko Hachiman Shrine (Reiwa 8), the "Yahata Danjiri Festival 2026" will take place over two days on Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12, ahead of the autumn festival (October 14-15). On the first day, October 11, a danjiri float procession will be conducted by the Yahata Danjiri Preservation Society, followed by mochimaki (rice cake tossing) and kagami-biraki (sake barrel opening) after the float enters the shrine grounds (miyairi). A miyairi by the Tsuga danjiri, the first since 2024 (Reiwa 6), is also scheduled, with another miyairi of the Yahata danjiri planned for the evening. On the second day, October 12, a dedication of Iwami Kagura by the Kami-Yoshida Preservation Society will be held at the shrine in the evening for the first time. During the festival, four food stalls will be set up within the shrine grounds and at the bottom of the stairs to add to the lively atmosphere. In case of rain, the danjiri procession will be postponed to the following day, October 12. Admission is free.
