About this event

Held on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Yanamotocho, Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, 'Yamanobe no Akari Ryuto-e' is an event that illuminates early autumn nights with enchanting lights. At the venue, Kurozuka Ancient Burial Mound (Kofun), approximately 60 traditional lanterns (andon) and 4,000 candle pots are lit, creating a mystical atmosphere that evokes the history of the Kofun period. Lighting hours are from 17:00 to 21:00, offering a scenic view distinct from the daytime. The event schedule includes an opening ceremony and creative Eisa dance performances by Kukuru. Additionally, bamboo-charcoal-grilled mitarashi dango (sweet soy glaze rice dumplings) will be sold on both days, allowing visitors to enjoy local food. Access to the venue is convenient, located about a 10-minute walk from Yanamoto Station on the JR Sakurai Line (Manyo Mahoroba Line). Where the ancient history of Kurozuka Kofun overlaps with the Edo-period history of the Yanamoto Domain, this will be a special two-night event to experience an enchanting world of light while feeling the long flow of history.
