About this event

This is one of the three annual Grand Festivals held at Kasayama Sanbo Koshin Shrine. Worshipped as the deity of the hearth (kamado), Kasayama Koshin is also known as one of Japan's Three Great Koshin. During this Grand Festival, the spirit of Itamen Koshin enshrined at Chikurin-ji Temple is divided and carried in a portable shrine (mikoshi) in a solemn procession (owatari) to Kasayama Koshin by local elders and parishioners. The mikoshi slowly advances along the approximately 500-meter approach, and upon arrival, solemn rituals are conducted, including dance performances dedicated by shrine maidens (miko). Ceremonies begin around 11:00 AM at Chikurin-ji Temple. On the day of the Grand Festival, special buses operate from Sakurai Station.
