About this event

"Yoshino Wood Fes 2026" is a participatory event held in Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture, themed around touching wood, creating with wood, and playing with wood. A variety of contents are prepared to let visitors experience the charm of a life with wood from diverse angles; through workshops, play, and town walking tours, guests can enjoy enriching moments where people and wood connect. Visitors can also savor local food and drinks unique to Yoshino, surrounded by mountains and the Yoshino River. Wood factories at the Yoshino Timber Yard—Japan's first timber industrial park established in 1939—will be specially opened to the public, offering factory tours where visitors can experience the dynamic sounds of wood processing and interact with craftspeople. A wide variety of booths and experiences can be enjoyed, such as shops offering furniture and interior spaces born from sawmills, factories showcasing how timber used in daily life—from architecture to wooden buckets—is produced, workshops offering hands-on log debarking using water pressure on polished logs, custom-made furniture production viewings, wood splitting experiences in a wood-scented showroom, exchanges with forestry students, sales of single-slab wooden tables, and projects introducing the craftsmanship of historic architecture. In addition, diverse organizations and individuals will participate to share the varied charms of Yoshino wood, including exhibitions of works by students studying traditional architecture, woodworking workshops, workshops by wooden musical instrument makers, wooden crafts made with Yoshino cedar and Yoshino cypress, hand touch care using essential oils, and experiential programs themed on wood education and dementia care. Delicious meals from food trucks and local eateries can also be enjoyed.
