About this event

An exhibition tracing the trajectory of manga artist Jiro Taniguchi (1947–2017), a native of Tottori Prefecture. He captivated readers around the world with his meticulous line work and exceptional descriptive power, depicting a wide variety of subjects, including "The Solitary Gourmet" (Kodoku no Gourmet). This exhibition examines Taniguchi's lifelong dedication to unlocking the possibilities of "manga," spanning dramas of men clashing over convictions, humans confronting harsh nature, the tactile sensation of animal life, abstract themes like the "ideology" of eras, and casual daily activities such as "walking" and "eating." Consisting of four chapters, the exhibition allows visitors to engage with Jiro Taniguchi's worldview, the evolution of Japanese manga media, and works set in his home prefecture of Tottori. In addition to famous scenes carefully selected from his vast body of work spanning approximately 50 years displayed on giant wall panels, visitors can experience the "atmosphere" emanating from single original drawings, and a reading corner is also provided in the epilogue.
