Inviting Mari Yamazaki, a manga artist, essayist, and painter who had a close relationship with him, she will discuss the essence of Jiro Taniguchi's works from her unique perspective. Taniguchi captivated readers around the world with intricate linework and storytelling, continuously depicting an extremely wide range of subjects for approximately 50 years since his debut. From dramas of men clashing over convictions, humans confronting harsh nature, the tactile feel of animal lives, to abstract matters such as the "philosophy" of the era, and even everyday casual activities like "walking" and "eating," the breadth of his themes is astonishing. Without remaining in limited domains, Mari Yamazaki explores the worldview of Jiro Taniguchi, who lifelong pioneered the possibilities of "manga" by constantly searching for new manga expressions with curiosity and inquiry, and giving them form through outstanding descriptive power.
