About this event

Set against the backdrop of the National Treasure Matsue Castle, the special limited-time event "Mizukagami Matsue Castle" will feature a giant water mirror. Matsue Castle, which houses one of only 12 surviving original castle towers in Japan, celebrated the 10th anniversary of its National Treasure designation last summer, and the "Great Reiwa Renovation"—the first in about 70 years—is scheduled to begin next year. This event will be the last chance to see Matsue Castle in a special presentation before the construction work begins. The giant water mirror appearing in the Honmaru (inner citadel) will reflect the Matsue Castle keep, inviting visitors into a magical world. From the Umadamari (castle entrance area) to the Honmaru with the castle keep, interactive light and sound experiences expressing flowing water and impressive projection mapping visuals will be presented. In addition, traditional lanterns and sky lanterns in collaboration with Matsue Suitoro will float into the night sky, further elevating the enchanting atmosphere. Through this special light and sound experience, visitors can discover a new charm of historic Matsue Castle.
