Gozagae Festival (Sada Shinno)

About this event

A festival at Sada Shrine that can be described as a ritual transfer of the deity, centered on replacing the rush mats (goza) laid on the sacred seats of the gods. The sacred dances performed at this time are collectively known as Sada Shinno. Incorporating Noh dances into Kagura, the roles and musical accompaniment follow Noh formats, continuing until late at night. The "Shichiza" (Seven Ritual Dances) are performed concurrently with the Shinto ritual, followed by "Shikisanban" and "Shinno" on the next day. Sada Shinno is designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and a Nationally Selected Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
