2026 Innoshima Suigun Festival - Hands-on Kobaya Experience
Japanese name:2026因島水軍まつり 体験小早
📅 Sun, Jul 26, 2026 - Sun, Aug 23, 2026
About this event
The Innoshima Suigun Festival is a community-wide event commemorating the Murakami Suigun navy, who operated based on Innoshima from the Nanboku-cho period through the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. In 2026, to reduce the risk of heatstroke, the "Island Fire Festival," which anticipates a large number of visitors, will be moved to September. The "Sea Festival" and the "Island Fire Festival" will be held on separate dates. In particular, the "Hands-on Kobaya Experience" allows participants to board the "Kobaya," a messenger boat used by the Innoshima Murakami Suigun, and actually row it with oars. Guided by skilled rowers, both children and adults can enjoy the experience safely, with each session lasting about 15 minutes. No advance registration is required; visitors can participate simply by going to the site at the scheduled date and time. Through this experience, visitors can learn the "Teachings of Heaven, Earth, and Man" left by the Murakami Suigun, appreciate ancestors and everyone involved, celebrate the joy of living and being sustained, and connect with the festival's spirit of valuing human harmony.
