About this event

At the Omishima Museum of Art in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, a special exhibition titled "Goen" by Paris-based internationally active sculptor Julien Signolet will be held. This special exhibition was born out of Julien Signolet's visit to the Setouchi and Shimanami region in 2024, where he encountered the island's people and nature. The works on display are sculptures created using local materials such as Oshima stone and Omishima wood during Julien's stay on Omishima in Imabari City in July 2026. Rather than standing alone as individual completed pieces, these works are configured as a spatial art installation created together with the island's people. By layering the textures of materials, traces of time, and human relationships, visitors can place themselves within the artwork and experience the invisible connection known as "goen". A unique exhibition space unfolds where the artist's expression and the island's natural climate intersect, which can only be created here. This special exhibition offers a unique exhibition experience where Julien Signolet's expression and the island's climate intersect.
