About this event
The Daizenji Tamataregu Hojoe, held at Daizenji Tamataregu Shrine in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, serves as the shrine's autumn grand festival. It features Shinto rituals praying for bumper crops and family safety, as well as a ritual releasing nina river snails inhabiting the giant camphor tree on the grounds, which are associated with Empress Jingu's expedition to the Korean Peninsula. This festival originates from the legend that Empress Jingu was saved by nina snails during her expedition to Silla. Shinto rituals are performed in the morning, while events are held starting in the afternoon, creating a lively atmosphere until the evening. The venue, Daizenji Tamataregu Shrine, also features convenient access, being about a 5-minute walk from Nishitetsu Daizenji Station. Admission is free, offering a valuable experience to pray for local abundance and safety while feeling the history and tradition associated with the giant camphor tree on the shrine grounds.
