About this event

Held at the Camellia Hall of the Fukutsu City Complex Cultural Center, "Fukutsu Hometown Theater 2026" is an event that conveys local culture. It is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026. This event features performances by the "Fukutsu Folktale Troupe," which studies numerous folktales handed down in Fukutsu City and creates everything from scripts to costumes and props on their own, and the "Katsuura Ningyo Joruri Preservation Society," which works to revive the "Katsuura Ningyo Joruri" puppet theater that has been passed down since the Edo period. In Part 1, the Katsuura Ningyo Joruri Preservation Society will perform "Keisei Awa no Naruto: Jurobei Sumika no Dan" (The Courtesan and the Awa Naruto: Scene at Jurobei's Residence), and in Part 2, the Fukutsu Folktale Troupe will perform the reading drama "Gekko no Natsu" (Summer of Moonlight). In the puppet theater, the well-coordinated performance of the narration, shamisen, and puppeteers creates a moving experience. It is held at the Fukutsu City Central Community Center and can be accessed within a 15-minute walk from JR Fukuma Station or an 8-minute walk from the Nishitetsu Bus "Tegamitsu" bus stop. The admission fee is 500 yen for advance tickets (600 yen on the day), and free for junior high school students and younger.
