Ryukyu Opera 'Aoriyae Fantasy'

About this event

A new Ryukyu entertainment fusing Ryukyu performing arts and Western opera, 'Aoriyae Fantasy' (Aoriyae Genso) will be staged at AIM UNIVERSE Tedako Hall. The story depicts the 7th King of Ryukyu, Sho Nei, and his queen, Aoriyae, as they waver between differing ideals yet face the hardships of the Satsuma invasion, discovering the importance of each other's existence, dynamically portrayed through songs, music, dance performances, video, and projection mapping. Weaving together traditional performing arts such as Ryukyu taiko drums and uta-sanshin (singing with sanshin) with orchestral performance, singing, and dance, this stage expresses Ryukyu's history and worldview through state-of-the-art staging. It is recommended for those unfamiliar with opera, those who wish to enjoy powerful live performances, and those who want to experience Ryukyu's historical culture from a fresh perspective. Deeper than history itself, please come to the venue and enjoy this tale of love and destiny of the King and Queen depicted through music and performing arts.
