About this event

Organized by the Vocal and Piano Labs of the Faculty of Education at Hirosaki University, 'Learn in Hirosaki: Technique and Heart of Art Songs 2026' is an event focusing on Italian and German art songs. Kazuhiko Yokoyama (tenor), Professor Emeritus at Tokyo Gakugei University, Kaori Sugihara (soprano lirico), Professor at Hirosaki University, and Naoya Oda (piano), Assistant Professor at the same university, will serve as instructors, giving lectures on vocal music, concerts, and open masterclasses. The performances of Italian and German songs by the instructors will be provided with Japanese subtitles, allowing even beginners to enjoy the poetic world with ease. In addition, the event also focuses on introducing Hirosaki's culture and arts, with free distribution of an original blend coffee 'Hanaikada' (first 150 people) created in collaboration with three coffee shops in Hirosaki, as well as exhibitions of Kogin-zashi embroidery and calligraphy. It is a great opportunity not only for music lovers but also for those considering their concert debut. In the open masterclass, practical guidance on vocalization, pronunciation, piece interpretation, and performer mindset will be provided.
