Oirase Shimoda Festival

About this event

Four float teams set themes based on Japanese history, folklore, and more, crafting floats tailored to each scene. The highlight is that real people dress up in costume and act as the characters, which locals call "iki-ningyo" (living dolls). People fully portraying historical figures put on performances on top of the floats. Across the 3 days from the eve festival to the return procession (Okaeri), the rotary in front of Shimoda Station is reserved, bustling with parade processions, a special stage, and night food stalls.
