15th Sendai 21 Independants Exhibition 2026

About this event

Bearing the title "independants," which means freedom and independence, this is an unjuried art exhibition. Originating from Sendai, this exhibition accepts all genres and forms of expression, including two-dimensional art, sculpture, video, installation, happening, and performance, based on the "independants" spirit where anyone can exhibit any artwork as long as they pay the entry fee. There are high expectations for the kind of emotional impact this spirit, irreplaceable for creators, will generate in 21st-century Sendai. This exhibition is an attempt to witness expressions of a new era by having gallery spaces in Sendai cooperate and collaborate to provide a space equally open to everyone. It aims to be a venue for expression where anyone can participate, transcending all barriers such as genre, taste, age, background, assertion, and value. In the past, creators such as Kanji Itoi (Dadakan) emerged from the Independants Exhibition, and works filled with a free spirit are eagerly anticipated at this exhibition as well.
