Japanese name:第35回記念「鷹山公シンポジウム」
📅 Sun, Aug 30, 2026
About this event
The 35th Commemorative "Yozanko Symposium" is a symposium that explores the true image of Lord Uesugi Kenshin, the ancestral founder of the domain, in commemoration of the 450th anniversary of his death and the 500th anniversary of his birth. From findings revealed by the latest research, an unknown side of Lord Uesugi Kenshin will become clear. It is being held anew with the theme and lecturers that had been scheduled for the 30th edition but were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the upcoming 450th death memorial service and the 500th anniversary of his birth in 2030, the event takes place amid rising citizen interest, including special exhibitions at the Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum and exhibits at Keishoden of Uesugi Shrine. New research topics that have deepened further over the past 5 years, such as "Kenshin had a wife!", will also be touched upon. Lectures are scheduled, including "Uesugi Kenshin's Advancement and Letters" by Mr. Tetsuto Abe, a curator at the local Uesugi Museum, and "Uesugi Kenshin's Wife" by Mr. Keiichi Fukuhara, Director of the Joetsu City Public Archives Center, making this a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of Lord Uesugi Kenshin. Admission is free, and no advance registration is required.
