27th Nanyo Sawayaka Wine Marathon

Held on Monday (Sports Day), October 12, 2026, in Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture, the "27th Nanyo Sawayaka Wine Marathon" features an undulating course that lets runners fully enjoy autumn in Nanyo City, running through the Akayu Onsen town, the approach to Kumano Taisha Shrine, and the Akiba Fruit Line. In addition to the popular half marathon, events for 5km, 3km, 4.5km walking, and 1.5km are offered. Participants receive participation prizes such as a full bottle of wine or grape juice/fruit juice. Furthermore, all finishers will be served sports drinks, Yamagata's specialty imoni (taro and meat stew), wine (for ages 20 and over), and grapes, with wine sales, tastings, and food stalls from local restaurants also scheduled at the tournament venue. Sayaka Sato of the Sekisui Chemical Women's Track and Field Club will participate as a guest runner.
