Toride Tone River Floating Lantern Festival

This is a traditional event in which lanterns are floated down the majestic Tone River to offer memorial services for ancestors, war dead, and others. The sight of hundreds of lanterns, each carrying personal prayers, floating down the river's surface in the dusk presents a mystical beauty. On the day, there will be attractions such as performances of Honjin Taiko and Ring Ring, and a memorial ceremony conducted by the Toride City Buddhist Association, followed by floating lanterns, send-off boats, and a fireworks display. The spectacle coloring the summer night sky and the Tone River will inspire all who visit.
