The Okutomi Scarecrow Festival, a beloved autumn tradition in Sayama City, will be held from Sunday, November 8 to Saturday, November 14, 2026. Handcrafted scarecrows made by local residents and organizations will stand in harvested rice fields, delighting visitors. A wide variety of scarecrows will be on display, ranging from traditional scarecrows in farming attire to unique creations reflecting current events and social trends of the year. In particular, on the opening day, Sunday, November 8, opening ceremonies will be held around Okutomi Elementary School, where food stalls and kitchen cars will also operate, bustling with many visitors. Scarecrow exhibits will run until Friday, November 13. An awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, November 14. The venue is along the rice fields on the south side of Okutomi Elementary School (commonly known as Flower Road), and the nearest station is about a 15-minute walk from the North Exit of Shin-Sayama Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. Viewing is free of charge, while food, drinks, and purchases at the stalls require separate fees. It is an event where you can fully enjoy an autumn day in an art space set within rural scenery.
