Japanese name:手話の日ブルーライトアップ

📅 Wed, Sep 23, 2026

📍 Asaka, Saitama

About this event

In Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture, the large zelkova tree at the "Hana no Ike Terrace" plaza in front of City Hall will be lit up in blue in conjunction with the "International Day of Sign Languages" and "Sign Language Day" on September 23. This initiative aims to raise awareness about sign languages, recognizing that sign languages are equal to spoken languages, and ensuring full protection of the human rights of deaf individuals. Commemorating the "International Day of Sign Languages" adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 19, 2017, and "Sign Language Day" established under the "Sign Language Policy Promotion Act" enacted in June 2025, this event aims to foster a deeper understanding of sign languages among every citizen and realize an inclusive society where everyone can live with peace of mind. The blue light symbolizes "world peace" and carries the wish to uphold the dignity of sign language users. Please take this opportunity to reflect upon and deepen your understanding of sign languages.
