About this event
The "54th Ogano Town Kabuki & Folk Performing Arts Festival" will be held in Ogano Town, Saitama Prefecture, under the theme "Town of Flowers, Kabuki, and Pure Waters: Ogano," gathering kabuki and folk performing arts from across the town performed by participants ranging from children to veterans. Traditional performing arts passed down since the Edo period, including kabuki, kagura, lion dance, and taiko drumming, will be presented, allowing visitors to experience community development that leverages local heritage. Serving as an annual culmination, this event is a rare opportunity to compare performances by different troupes over 2 days that are normally presented at separate festivals. Highlights include authentic plays performed by children, comparative performances of the famous "Shiranami Gonin Otoko" scene, and adult plays staged by preservation societies. In addition, a tourism product market named "Kabuki Yokocho" will be held concurrently at the venue, featuring regional folk entertainment such as Chichibu Hayashi music and Kappore dance between main stage acts. Even first-time kabuki attendees can enjoy the performances, starting with short pieces and easy-to-understand dramatic highlights. Admission is free, and no advance reservation is required.
