About this event
The exhibition floor 'FOREST' at the Science Museum marks its 30th anniversary, and the special exhibition 'Forest of Senses' (Kankaku no Mori) is held in commemoration. In this exhibition, the hands-on interactive exhibit 'Sense and Bodily Experience Field' (Kankaku/Taikan Field), owned by the Science Museum and loaned to museums and science centers nationwide, takes center stage. Focusing on the 'senses' such as vision, hearing, and touch that we casually use every day, the content allows visitors to move their bodies and enjoy their own 'awareness' and 'discoveries' through mysterious sensory experiences. In 'What is Your Vision?', when looking through a kaleidoscope or a door viewer, do you look with your right eye or left eye? You can experience the structure of the 'eye', including dominant eye and blind spots. In 'Hard-to-See Field of View', experience what a world reversed left-to-right or upside-down feels like, and how everyday letters and scenery appear. In 'Hard-to-Hear Sounds', you can experience the mechanism of noise cancellation and mosquito tones, encouraging you to listen very carefully. In 'Manual Dexterity', challenge a game where you move a ring without touching a winding, intricate metal rail. There are 3 levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—testing whether you can reach the goal within the time limit. In the panel exhibits, animals' supersenses such as 'hawk eyes' and 'dog noses' introduce animal 'senses' that differ from humans. In the optical illusion panels, works using color schemes and arrangement patterns are introduced, questioning whether it is your own eyes moving or the picture. This special exhibition is perfect for summer vacation, allowing visitors to once again experience the concept of 'learning through play' that FOREST has valued. Please visit the mysterious forest of 'senses' with your family and friends.
