About this event

As a 45th anniversary commemorative performance for Kodo, "Monoprism," a collaboration between the taiko performing arts group Kodo and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, will be held. This performance features the symphonic work "Monoprism" by contemporary music master Maki Ishii, which premiered in 1976 conducted by Seiji Ozawa in a joint performance by Kodo and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 2026, marking the 50-year milestone since the premiere, a solemn and powerful stage woven by taiko and orchestra will unfold alongside Tatsuya Shimono, one of Japan's leading conductors, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The program includes the suite from the movie "Star Wars," Kodo's "Tomoe," Maki Ishii's "Monoprism for Japanese Drums and Orchestra," and the orchestral version of Isao Tomita's "Song of Space," promising a precious evening where the physical power of taiko merges with the diverse resonance of the orchestra. It is a performance where guests can savor supreme resonance and a luxurious time.
