About this event

This special festival allows parents and children to enjoy experiencing and learning about the Edo culture of Hachioji together. At the hands-on experience booths, visitors can fully immerse themselves in various Edo period pastimes, including trying on samurai armor, spinning traditional tops, stilt walking, an Edo period printing technique workshop, and operating traditional kuruma ningyo (wheeled puppets). The exhibition booths feature displays and explanations of Edo period artifacts and reconstructed dining tables by curators, an Edo quiz, and toy picture puzzles. Stage events include a dynamic live "Kuruma Ningyo" puppet theater performance (with meet-and-greet interactions and photo opportunities after the show), traditional "Hachioji Matsuri-bayashi" festival music performances, and a historical lecture on Hachioji and Edo by Professor Emeritus Manabu Oishi, who has served as a historical consultant for numerous NHK Taiga dramas. Novelty and promotional items are available on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited quantities. Seating for stage events may also be limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
