About this event
The '31st Sagami River Lantern Floating Evening,' organized by the Atsugi City Council of the Movement for a Brighter Society, will be held on the riverbank at the confluence of the three rivers in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. In this event where lanterns inscribed with the names of the deceased (posthumous Buddhist names) or prayers for peace are floated, countless lanterns lighting up the summer night sky create a magical spectacle. Lanterns for adults are 1,200 yen per lantern for the first 200 people, and children's creative lanterns, where children can write drawings and messages with wishes for peace, are 500 yen per lantern for the first 100 people. Inscribing posthumous Buddhist names on lanterns will be handled by staff. No advance registration is required, and viewing and admission are free. You can spend a moment remembering loved ones and wishing for peace on a quiet late summer evening.
