About this event

Set at the local community hub 'shiro' in Minamiashigara City, this hands-on event invites parents and children to connect with satoyama nature. Participants will observe wild plants and trees growing in the garden, forage/harvest plants, and learn about familiar flora and the blessings of satoyama. The event also includes a 3-wild-herb tea blending workshop using found herbs, and an experience touching deer antlers and fur. Finally, participants will enjoy a 'Michikusa Lunch' featuring wild plants and gibier (wild game). It will be a day to discover, know, feel, and eat familiar nature. Exploring what lies in the grass and what creatures inhabit nature may lead to new discoveries right underfoot and in landscapes usually overlooked. This event aims to let participants experience a rich environment where mountains and towns, flora and life, and humans and wildlife cycle together, connecting them to a second hometown. Additionally, participants can hear about coexistence with wild animals in the satoyama environment from a hunter's perspective. Regardless of whether adult or child, it is a chance to spend a fulfilling holiday finding what you love and want to try in Minamiashigara, tasting the local delicacies, and reflecting on the nurturing life beneath the mountain ridgelines.
