About this event
This historical pageant recreates the daimyo's alternate attendance (sankin-kotai) procession from the Edo period, coloring autumn in Hakone. First recreated in 1935 (Showa 10) based on the daimyo procession of the local Odawara Domain, it features tsuyuharai (path clearers), magistrates, and more. Highlights include the spear-twirling by yakko (attendants) and the changing of hasamibako (luggage box) carriers. In 2026, starting with an opening ceremony at the former site of the Bussankan, the first performance will be held at Ajisai Bridge in front of Hakone-Yumoto Station, followed by performances along Taki-dori from Hotel Nanpuso and on National Route 1. In addition to welcoming Kanagawa-born celebrity Ikue Sakakibara as a special guest, Hakone Yumoto Geisha, the Odawara Hojo Teppo-shu (matchlock gunners), and others will participate, parading solemnly. Last year's event drew 30,000 visitors, bustling with many tourists.
