About this event

Held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Takaoka Kojo Park, the "Takaoka Castle Wakuwaku Festival" is an event celebrating the anniversary when Lord Toshinaga Maeda, the founder of Takaoka town, entered Takaoka Castle and town building began. At the venue, there are plenty of programs for both adults and children to enjoy, ranging from events where you can experience history, to gourmet food and hands-on activities. A special highlight is the falconry demonstration associated with "takagari" (falconry), which Lord Toshinaga was said to have loved; you can watch powerful flights up close, and a workshop where you can hold a hawk on your arm will also be held (limited to 30 people per session, numbered tickets will be distributed). In addition, a panel discussion on the theme "What Should Be Done with Takaoka Kojo Park?" will feature Toshinori Maeda (the 19th head of the Maeda family), Ryosuke Nigatake (Senior Director of Takaoka Municipal Museum), and Jo Demachi (Mayor of Takaoka). For food, you can enjoy light meals, sweets, drinks, and more from 19 planned food trucks gathering at Honmaru Square. Other scheduled activities include guided tours to learn about the history of Takaoka Castle, picture-story shows (kamishibai) of local folk tales passed down in Takaoka, and a quiz rally for parents and children (prizes available for answering all questions correctly, limited quantities). In conjunction with the event, Takaoka Municipal Museum will also hold a mini-exhibition themed "Commemorating the Entry of Lord Toshinaga Maeda, Founder of Takaoka Town: Pictorial Maps of Takaoka Castle and Kojo Park," making it a full day to enjoy food and activities while learning about the history of Takaoka.
