About this event
Held at Oiwasan Myooji Temple in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the "Summer Fire Festival" is a traditional event where visitors can experience the "Secret Fire Walking Ritual," an ascetic practice performed by the Hokuriku Shugendo Hakusan-kai Yamabushi monks. Participants pray for health and happiness under the divine protection of Oiwasan Fudo Myoo. Also known for healing eye diseases and warding off evil, this ritual is said to bestow the same spiritual merit as 100 days of ascetic practice. Following the "Saito Dai-Goma-ku" (grand outdoor fire ritual) performed by the Yamabushi monks, the fire-walking ritual is conducted. It is traditionally held on the last Sunday of August, and in recent years the starting time has been changed to the morning. The prayer service begins at 10:00, and the fire-walking ritual takes place around 11:00. Through this precious experience, participants can pray for mind-and-body refreshment and good fortune.
