Jumangoku Festival
Japanese name:十万石まつり
📅 Sat, Sep 12, 2026 - Sun, Sep 13, 2026
About this event
Held in the Daishoji district of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the "Jumangoku Festival" honors Lord Toshiharu Maeda, the founder of the Daishoji Clan, and prays for industrial development and promotion as the birthplace of the world-famous "Ko-Kutani" porcelain. Held throughout the castle town area of the Daishoji Clan, which ruled 100,000 koku (jumangoku) as a branch domain of the Kaga Clan, this major festival adding color to the region's autumn features a procession conveying pride as a castle town continuing from the Edo period, along with various events organized by local residents. On the night of the first day, a "Manto Mikoshi" (lantern portable shrine) decorated with nearly 100 lanterns will be hoisted in the plaza in front of City Hall and carried energetically through the streets by local young men. Additionally, children's portable shrines, stage events, an amateur singing contest, and circle dances will also take place, creating lively festivities. It will be an opportunity to feel the history of Daishoji more closely, overlapping with memories of visiting castle ruins, temples, and art museums during the day. Families can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the lantern-lit castle town.
