About this event

The annual 'Togakushi Kodo Grand Walk' will be held again in 2026. This is a 2-day walking event starting from the National Treasure Zenko-ji Temple and heading toward Togakushi Shrine Okusha along the 'Togakushi Kodo' (ancient path), accompanied by knowledgeable guides belonging to the Togakushi Tourism Association. While visiting the representative shrines and temples of Nagano City, participants can enjoy hospitality featuring seasonal ingredients as well as Togakushi soba noodles. You can experience trekking through townscapes and highlands while feeling the highland breeze transitioning from summer to autumn. An amulet from Togakushi Shrine will be awarded as a completion prize to those who complete both days. Designated by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as one of 'Japan's 100 Historic Roads,' the 'Togakushi Kodo' is a path of prayer carved out by mountain ascetics and trodden solid by pilgrims. A local guide accompanies the tour, allowing you to walk while listening to commentaries by those deeply familiar with Togakushi. Light snacks made with local seasonal ingredients will be provided at aid stations, and special hospitality treats and Togakushi soba will be prepared for lunch. At the end of the second day, there will be an official prayer service at the Okusha main sanctuary of Togakushi Shrine. In addition, an opportunity to receive the goshuin (temple/shrine red stamps) of Zenko-ji Temple, Jomatsu-ji Temple, Kakuredaki Fudoson (Hogaku-ji Temple), and Togakushi Shrine (Five Shrines) visited during the event is also provided (advance registration required). Furthermore, participants in both days will receive 2,000 yen worth of 'Togakushi Coupons' usable at accommodations, restaurants, and souvenir shops in the Togakushi area (1,000 yen worth for single-day participants).
