About this event

The Fu Hachimangu Annual Grand Festival, which colors the autumn of Iwata, is held every year on the first Saturday and Sunday of October. Taking place at Fu Hachimangu Shrine, founded in the Nara period, this festival's appeal lies in the powerful two days woven together by festival floats (dashi) and portable shrines (mikoshi). Townspeople from 20 neighborhood associations in the Nakaizumi district head out to Jubiroad at the north exit of JR Iwata Station with vigorous shouts, pulling gorgeous, lavishly decorated floats. During the mikoshi procession on Sunday, the "Meigyo Hoken no Gi" (Ritual of Offering Live Fish) is performed on the east approach within the shrine grounds, where live fish are offered before the mikoshi, Shinto prayers are recited, and the fish are released into pure water. On the stage to the west of the Romon gate, children's dances, Tekomai dances, and Urayasu dances are dedicated, bringing the festival to the height of excitement. On Saturday evening and Sunday night, the "Miyairi" is held as the floats gather at Fu Hachimangu Shrine, allowing visitors to feel the festival's vibrant energy firsthand. Traffic restrictions will also be in effect around the venue.
