About this event

A railway exhibition is being held for the first time in four and a half years in Fujieda City, which made its name in Japanese railway history as a 'railway town' during the post-war period. Visitors can enjoy two special exhibitions: 'Fujieda Railway Heritage Exhibition' and 'Nobutaro Hara Model Railway Exhibition.' The 'Fujieda Railway Heritage Exhibition' introduces the history of the Shizuoka Railway Sunen Line, known as Japan's longest light railway, and the high-speed testing of the 'Kodama' limited express conducted around Fujieda, which set a world speed record for narrow-gauge lines at 163 km/h at the time, through valuable documents, models, and dioramas. Many models of train cars that operated on the Tokaido Main Line from the Showa to Heisei eras will also be on display. Another highlight, the 'Nobutaro Hara Model Railway Exhibition,' brings back to the Fujieda City Museum for the first time in six years the precious collection crafted and collected by Nobutaro Hara, renowned as the 'god of model trains.' Approximately 60 large-scale model trains built with meticulous attention to the materials and techniques used in real trains will be exhibited. Related events include a gallery talk on Nobutaro Hara's model trains, a railway lecture, a fun model train driving session, and a walking tour along the abandoned tracks of the Shizuoka Railway Sunen Line.
