📍 Taki, Mie

About this event

A summer vacation special project held at Gokatsura Pond Animal Park (Taki Town) to have fun learning about the Japanese serow (kamoshika). In this program, participants can spend 1 hour uncovering the secrets of the serow by looking for relatives of the serow and touring animal rescue facilities that are normally closed to the public. The event offers a wide variety of activities, including quizzes, a mini screening of "The Four Seasons of Serows", and a quiz competition aimed at becoming a "Serow Master". Welcoming Yutaka Mori, former director of the former Japan Kamoshika Center, as the lecturer, the ecology and appearance of the serow will be clearly explained using stuffed specimens and plush toys. Furthermore, with a special tour of the injured wildlife protection facility and an in-park game to spot serow relatives, it is also ideal for summer vacation independent research projects. Families can easily join, and questions regarding serows will be answered. This event is conducted with support from the Japan Fund for Global Environment FY2026 grant.
